Hello All, my 1st post here. Bought my 1st Mercedes 3 months ago. An 89 560sel. With only 128,000 actual miles. Engine so clean you could eat off it. Figured it was a good deal, car is in perfect shape, good paint, no dents, scratches. Interior mint except for 3 inch split on drivers seat stitch. Found out in my small town of 100 thou there is only 1 Mercedes mechanic. All shops say 'go to witty'. So, when my blinker switch went out, I did. Only $485 to fix. When I dropped off the car, the radio was working fine. When I got it back, there was a line down the center. Will not turn on of off, cannot enter code. Witty said radio must have died while in shop. Too bad, just fo buy a new one with cd.
My question is, Is this right? Is radio dead?
Then, drove to New Orleans, and the key would not turn the ignition switch on. Call a bunch of repair shops, the one that sounded the best said: If I can get it to turn on, I can fix for $180. If not, I will have to drill it out, it wilo cost you $300-$400. So, when I picked it up a week later, it was $775.
Another question. Are all Mercedes repair shops like this? Are there no honest German mechanics?
Makes me want to sell this fine automobile and go back to Japanese junk.
Since then I have replaced the oil pan, spark plugs, injectors, all belts, all filters, 4 door componets after 1 failed, all 4 window regulators.
