Thumbs up my old/ new 380sel 84

greetings to all , just had delivery of my 1984 380sel, old but goes like stig. paid $500 of my hardearned, yes i paid 500 bucks .its neat, licenced and drives, this is my second merc, i previously had a 300se 1989. but it blew a head gasket and was abandoned in the emergency lane not long after i got it. i suppose it was that car that wet my appetite, now the new /old 380 is wat the 300 should have been, it drives wellbut is a bit breathless like the owner,it seems to be heavily breathing out of the oil cap. but not out of the dipstick. its just had the top end done, heads etc. im assuming it now might need rings and bearing, am i correct or is this normal itd done 270000km,also noted on tst drive if it was let idle and then driven off it spat out a small blue cloud, to me this is valve stemms but its had the top done. any clues? I M not expecting much for $500 but would like to fix it and do it up. also have seen several with ford v8 convertions is it good or not. any how im a new member and would like to talk further,

Hello, from Florida. I wouldn't think that car would need rings at that mileage. Still sounds like valve guides to me,even though the top end was done. As for the V8 conversion,I just installed a Ford 351W,with C4 automatic trans in my 82 380SL. Not a job for the faint hearted. Very difficult. Had to fabricate a complete new crossmember, and make so many other modifications. But,it is finished, and the car runs and drives great. Much more power, and much better gas mileage. Not to mention, the timing chain nightmare is gone.
