Just registered on the boards as I have recently inherited my father's W202 C280 ('98 w/the V6) and am planning on putting some bread into making it closer to what it once was. Aside from its aesthetic flaws, I really am partial to the thing as I live in Brooklyn and honestly could not think of anything better to drive in New York (amazing turn-in, soft suspension, small car, etc..). I'm looking forward to learning a lot from the community about these cars as I have always had a soft spot for the quality and over-engineering of MB, although many will probably argue that I've come into the most uncharacteristic of models in that regard
. My mother also owned a baby blue/tan 450SEL when I was younger which was nothing but awesome. I can never remember if that was a '74 or '75 honestly, but it was one of the two.
Anyway, it's nice to be here. About my user name/self; at heart I'm really a BMW fanatic (flamesuit on). I've had two e34s (MY '89-'95 5 series) and am currently finishing a heart transplant on #2. There's an engine hoist + all of my tools currently set up and ready to rock as the Bimmer project winds down, and I was thinking in my sick mind of segueing straight into a little gasket refresh on the W202 in light of that fact (although honestly the engine does not seem to leak a drop of anything). One thing about this 202, which I am told is not typical Benz, is that the auto tranny is really on its last legs. It's been nicely driven (with the exception of some spirited driving by me here and there) and has 140k, but anything more than half throttle off the line and she simply slips out of gear and revs. More on that will be posted in the technical side of the boards.
Looking forward to getting to know the regulars and hopefully sharing my own experiences for the benefit of the community in due time!
