03 CLK320 SRS MODULE REPLACEMENT ADVICE

Hello,

I have been a proud owner of a pre-owned 03 CLK320 Coupe with 32K miles for a few months now and I love the car. Last week I got the SRS fault visit work shop message and the SRS light went off. I got a local MB dealership to diagnose the problem and it is a faulty Airbag control module B2D92 code. They quoted me $1300 to replace it with a new one. I have been reading several threads on this site about
replacing the SRS module with a good used one. I would like to know if some one has been able to successfully replace the SRS module with a good used one. I was able to pull mine and I got the exact part numbers on it. They are 0 285 001 373 and right below 001 820 97 26. They are several SRS modules with those same exact numbers on eBay that are being sold as good units. However, the donor vehicles are not 03 CLK320's. According to one thread posted here in order to successfully replace SRS module with a used module the donor SRS module needs to come from the exact year, model and month vehicle. According to MB dealer this is impossible because every SRS module comes VIN coded and once it's programmed you can not re-program. Can anyone shed some light on this please. Am I doomed to pay such an exorbitant amount of money or can I take care of it my self. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

SRS control modules do have the VIN # coded into it. Once its been coded, it cant be changed. Ya you could always be cheap and try a used one but I would make sure its from the same year and model. That would give you a better chance of it working properly.

SRS Control Module

I have a 1999 E320 Wagon. Last week while driving I looked down and my SRS light was on. Took to dealer who said SRS Control Module needed to be replaced for $1300. I mentioned that one of the rear seat belts was stuck and won't release, could that be causing problem? He told me no, separate issue. Seems more than a coincidence to me. Thoughts? Anyone know how to get seat belt to feed back into roller (rear seat on passenger side). Thanks!!

PS I coulnd't find where to post so I replied to another post on same topic.
