New to the forum!
Greetings! I am new to the forum. I purchased a 1993 300SE recently and have been spending some time online learning more about this vehicle. I bought it because I wanted something that would be as close to a tank as possible, but yet be nimble and have a good handle.
3 years ago I had a some neurosurgeries and the top of my spine was fused. I am just now getting some range of motion back and feel I can drive again.
But I needed a car that would make me feel safe and have excellent visibilty. I did not go out specifically looking for a specific Mercedes, but I knew that is what I needed. As a teenager I had an older 300D, and I could turn that car on a dime and give you 9 cents change. Now that I am 40 and have some issues, I needed a car that could help me out and keep me safe.
My husband and I live in a rural part of Virginia and who would have thought I would have found exactly what I need in an even more rural area 20 miles away. In it's day, this was one nice car. And I can see through the peeling clear coat paint and the cracked leather seats there is still a lot of life left in this baby.
As with anything car wise, and older at that, there are going to be some maintenance issues, but this car can provide me some very specific things that I need that the new models, regardless of make, just can't. Windows have gotten smaller creating more blind spots, more and more plastic parts that provide no protection, and the list goes on.
Yeah, I am a little smitten with this car. My husband took it in today to a MB dealership to get a replacement key made, it only came with one, and he said the service person asked if it had the double thick windows, when Doug said yes, he said the man's eyes twinkled and he said "You did get a tank."
Sorry if this is a longer post than usual. Like I said, I am new to the forum, but I do luv my old Mercedes. I have a feeling there are others out there who do as well.
