valve seals replacement quote

Hello everyone,

I own a 2003 MB e320, recently it started to burn oil and i was told that it was the valve seals. The car throws a bluish smoke from the exhaust when you accelerate it. it only does it when you push the pedal hard sometimes.
A mechanic gave me a quote of $2000 to replace the valve seals, I am not a handy guy with tools, can any body help me with this question? I would like to know if that is a reasonable quote or this guy is trying to over price me.

thanks !!!

Bum seals manifest by leaking oil down valve guides after engine is turned off and sitting for a few hours(gravity), then a puff of smoke after you statr it(burning oil that has dripped either into cyl when a valve is open or onto head of valve if closed, If rings worn it'll smoke when driving, not just on start up. $2,000 to replace seal is a lot (I think) unless they're pullling heads and rebuilding. Was a compresson test done ? Should be around 150 lbs per cyl without a great deal of variance.

I got the same kind of quote for valve stem seals on my 2.6. Do it yourself. ORder the parts from, get a spring compressor from Kragen auto parts and also get a spark plug air line house to keep the cylinder pressurized with air -90PSI so the valves do not drop into the cylinder when you remove the spring....the collets that hold the valve stem need to be tapped out with a hammer....they stick due to heat cycles. After that pull the old rubber seal out without scratching your valve stem and slide the new ones on with the covers they provide. Make sure to use the intake seals on the intakes and the exhaust ones for exhaust....they are flat or have a ridge. You will also need an air compressor. It is tiring leaning over the engine doing this for over an hour so be prepared. I burn ZERO oil now after performing this. Seals are like $12 bucks before...not sure now.

There is one rule...there are no rules!
