Unhappy window have a mind of their own

My C230 started to lower it's windows overnight while the car is parked and off.

Fortunately, it was discovered before any rain could compound the problem by soaking the electrics in the doors. The battery is disconnected to prevent it from happening until I can search out a solution.

Has anyone else had this rather strange defect?

Welcome to Benzworld, what year is your car and have you experience a battery drain problem?

ERIC.

Windows have a mind of their own.

Good morning Eric

I do not think it has a battery drain problem although I didn't think of testing it. I thought it had a strong battery before I parked it for the last several months.

I think the problem with my 1999 MB is that it must get an unwanted signal from some electronic device to lower the windows when the car is parked overnight. It never occurred during the day when it is on and off on a regular basis.

I live in Canada so to prevent snow drifts on my seats I had to disconnect the battery so the windows do not get the signal to lower. Needless to say it cannot be trusted so it sat in my driveway all winter.

The trunk lid release does not work either, but, I've felt that was an unrelated issue.

Regards,
Bob

Have you run through the window reset procedure? Do all four windows open by the same amount?

ERIC.

Okay, I'm about to learn something new.

I know nothing about windows reset procedure. Can you direct me to a web site that would explain the procedure?

Yes the windows, all four, drop to the fullest extent.

Regards,
Bob

OK this is a suck it and see, it may not help but will eliminate the first possibility, ie a confused module;

Sit in the car engine running all doors closed, do one window at a time, send the window to the bottom and press the window switch down and hold it for a few seconds, then send the window to the top and lift and hold the switch in the window raised position for a few seconds.

Do the same with the sunroof if fitted. You may need to do this procedure a few times until all four window work on one touch full auto up and down.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the next step will depend on what your car is fitted with, switch off the ignition get out and lock the car with the fob, then press and hold unlock on the fob until all the windows and sunroof open. Then press lock on the fob and hold until all the windows and sunroof close.

ERIC.

Eric

Before implementing the procedure you outlined above, I have to replace the trunk mounted battery.

I have a dead battery, no doubt it was frozen while sitting idle all winter. The fob does not release the trunk lid and the key has been broken in the key slot due to seized tumblers.

Could the fact that the fob does not release the trunk be related to the window issue?

Regards.
Bob

If the battery in the trunk is dead, then yes it could be related.
