Glad to be a member of this forum. I've got an alternator question

Hi,
I have 2 300SD's that are running on waste vegetable oil. One's a W116, the other a 126. I'm baffled by the alternator on the 116. Autozone (2 different ones) say the alternator is charging but the voltage regulator is bad. So I replaced the voltage regulator... twice (once with an $8.80 off brand, and the second time with a Bosch). Alternator light still on. Any thoughts?
Thanks very much,
John

Welcome to Benzworld, have you had the battery tested, maybe it is not holding charge. And the alternator is working too hard.

ERIC.

More information

The battery is a good thought, but this one is brand new.
Thanks for the quick reply, though.

Here's some more information that may help you analyze the problem.
1) Just replaced the starter (had to practically melt the casting on the starter to get bottom bolt out)
2) Have been fiddling with instrument cluster wiring, but it seems correct

I appreciate your advice,

John

Why did you need to replace the starter?

ERIC.
