Resale values down?

I've been seeing a trend with prices of used m class and I'm wondering if it is occurring elsewhere. Locally a 320 sells for $7k for a. 98 with some higher and much lower depending on condition usually mileage. If I look at the markets a ffdew hundred miles away I can find them maybe $1-2k cheaper. The 430"s were up to a few grand more while the same year 500 could be double the price of a equivalent 320.

About a month back I noticed the listings for the V8's were sticking around longer, then prices were being dropped a little, and recently newer and newer models are showing up. For instance today there is a 2006 ml500 listed at $10300. There is the odd 98-01 320 listed for the same or a bit more! This is about half the black book value for trade in or asking price. Trying to figure out what is driving the price down so far. If it is market wide then somethings up but if not maybe time to do some buying nere:-)

So anyone else seeing this?

There is a reason why for years I am buying Mercedes 2000-3000 miles from home.
5 years old diesel models in California are about $8000 more expensive than in Texas or on East coast.
Have fun figuring it out.

Gas price goes up, value of low MPG car goes down.

Its not just down though these are too far down for it to be just mileage. The gas price here has been stable for about a year. That definitely would drop them but not this much shouldn't be anyway. And the 55/63 don't seem to be effected. Just the cheap junk :-)

I gather there is also a bubble in socal as far as value on some models. Are you seeing the same thing work the the v8's?

Gas price is really a factor in resale value of large cars. When I suggest a relative to buy a used V8, he'll go "what? r u nut? no way."
Even though gas price in socal is "stable" around $4, it's still high for many people with limited budgets. At intersection where there's a gas station at each corner, motorists flood the station that sells 2-3 cents cheaper per gallon. Praise their math and patience, 5 minute wait in line, 15-gallon fill up saves at most 45 cents. Unfortunately, I'm all of them, owning V8 so I must save on gas by getting in line. fyi, I've seen somewhat new Porsche, Ferrari getting in line behind me. that's no joke.

I have seen a Ferrari 308GTi on sale locally for $22k. It was in great shape other than two proble
(this is is Magnum show model if your not familiar with the numbers) so I passed on it.

One problem was it didn't have a trailer hitch and I suspect even the factory might have trouble with that one :-) I'm sure it has the power to drag a utility trailer around but ...

And the biggest problem was it was sky blue not red of any sort. Could have been worse, could have been Mary Kay pink. Hopefully MB has banned that bunch from all dealers with shoot on sight orders.

The one flaw with the v8 theory is that the vehicles you expect to see crash out price wise seem to be holding on. The larger suv types are all over. Locally you can buy a fairly new Durango for a couple of grand. 04-06 for under $3k. Evidently the bigger hemi 5.7? is the biggest looser regardless of how well kitted out.

Used to be able to make a few $ by doing the same as that Texas-Ca run. Be nice to figure out what to shift where and do that again. Did the same with class a motor homes a while back. Just need to figure out the merc market or gets that Ferrari trailer hitch kit.
