Finally gotta Benz!
I joined this group many months ago and began a search for a Mercedes that would work for me and the wife. My first attempt was to locate a 280SL and bring it home from the east coast. Most 280's live in Florida.
That didn't work out too well. So, my next step was to find a 300SL in California. Back in 1966 I bought a 1959 300SL roadster from a girl friend's dad for $3,500.00, hard top, books, tools and luggage. Didn't marry that young woman but met and married another. Sold the 300 for $3,500.00 and started married life. Yes I do regret selling that car but it went to a good home. FYI, it was a simple daily driver back in those days.
I digress, skip 45 years and back to the later model SL. Borrowed a 1990 300 SL from a friend and drove the wife to lunch. No go, too small, like being in a Piper Cub. She's never been in a Piper Cub. On we go.
The heavens finally opened and I found a very sweet 1999 C 280 Sport model with about 102,000 miles in L.A. It was on eBay and I zapped it with a Buy-It-Now for $5,200. Flew south to L.A. from San Francisco locale and picked it up. After a nasty drive up the I-5 we made it home in one piece.
Both of us are happy, everything works and it goes like a rocket. Our last car was a Honda Accord, hence the rocket accolade. Tomorrow we are of to see my pal Dave the Benz guy for a check up and oil change.
Does anyone know how to hook up a Sirius Radio to an older C 280? Or, is there a Benz radio with Sirius-XM that could replace my existing radio?
