Arrow 2002 AMG320 Navigation Questions

Hi everyone. I have the referenced Benz with the factory installed GPS, which as those of you who still have this know it is pretty crappy. It is an actual CD that is inserted into the slot (can you tell I'm a girl), and I am wondering how an upgrade for this works... Is there such a thing as an updated CD that I can install and see improvements? Will I get improvements to the maps (actual streets, cities, etc.)? Will I also get improvements to the application? I am definitely not interested in any info about add-on navigation products -- I am only interested in info that addresses using the navigation built into the car.

I am also not able to get any voice command in my navigation. I've ensured that the set up is marked to maximum voice, and when the voice should be giving commands my radio or whatever is playing does go quiet, but no voice is heard....

Thank you to anyone who has some suggestions! Have a great day.

Hi Ranny,

I have the GPS in my 2001 E320 (MB calls this the COMAND module). I like mine but you're right that the navigation is pretty bad. There should be an issue date on your CD. Every year, at least up to 2009 or so, there is an updated disc. I have found and bought most of mine on ebay. There are no hardware or firmware updates that I know of.

As far as the audio portion I think the volume level must be adjusted while the woman is talking and that is independent of the radio and audio CD volume. Plus there is a separate owner's manual for the COMAND units. You might be able to go to the MBUSA and download for free, or buy a hard copy on ebay too.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Thanks a million! I believe my CD is 2002, and I will look on ebay for an update And a lightbulb went off when you talked about the nav volume....I remember with my BMW the nav voice was turned up or down with the general (radio system) volume control, and I have not tried touching that while the radio goes quiet and I can ~tell~ that she's just dying to say something. ha ha. Well I will try that volume button tonight! Have a terrific day, and thanks for the welcome. Yes I, too, love my car. Vielen danken!

BTW I just checked ebay and there wasn't much there. You can also try the classified section here (General section just below this one). I found a couple of people selling CDs there. Also, the tip I gave you on MBUSA: all I found there were free COMAND downloads for the much newer COMAND units (DVD based).
