1985 300D nonturbowith 100,000 miles or 1996 E300 with 280,000 miles
I've enjoyed reading this forum for some time. I just joined it officially. I bought my first Benz 2 years a go, a 2006 E320 CDI. I love this car...amazing efficiency and comfort. I drive a lot, which this car is built for. But I'm worried about putting on too many miles on her and want to baby her by getting an older Benz diesel to pound on. So I'm looking for a good value Benz diesel that can take some abuse, and provide good mileage. I found a 1996 E300 that appears to be in nice shape, but it has over 270,000 miles. For about a grand less I found a really clean 1985 300 D non turbo with only 109,000 miles. My question is, which is a more reliable and efficient vehicle, maintenance wise? I figure the E300 will get better mileage...but at that mileage I'm worried about having to pay for major repairs (transmission?) or should I just pile on the miles on my E320, take care of scheduled maintenance, and not worry about it ?
Any comments would be appreciated.
