Post DVD capability of COMAND System?

Hi...long time reader; first time poster.

As most of you know, the COMAND System allows you to watch DVD movies while the car is in park, but not while the car is in motion. I recently purchased a 2012 CLS 550 (love it), and was told that the only way to watch movies while not in Park was to purchase a module for $750 and have it installed for another $150. Does this sound right, or am I getting hustled a lil bit?

Thanks for your time,

That sounds like it could be a conversion to the systems that might be legal in Europe. I know they can watch TV but I don't know if they can while driving.

It functions that way for safety reason. Like backup camera, the monitor is turned on only when the gear is in Reverse. That's done by having the backup light wire connected. Some people ignored the law, bypass that connection when DIY.

If the passenger(s) want to watch TV, get a TV tuner for car or a portable LCD TV, only $100 or less. With headphones on, they won't bother the driver.

If he anyway insists on the CAN filter that enables video in motion, the price mentioned is too high and in most cases installation is easy enough for oneself.
