Need help narrowing down a MB model and becoming a MB owner

Hi I am a happy 2004 Toyota Tacoma owner who has run into a pickle. I have recently moved to the Houston area for my job but all of my close friends and family still live in Arkansas. If you know anything about Arkansas, you know that the Razorbacks are the center of everyday life like it or not. As a result I make trips back to Arkansas on a regular and frequent basis. I've also come to realize that anytime you travel in Texas there will be a long drive. I love my truck and plan on running it into the ground however, everytime I make the drive back to Arkansas it's over 1200 miles. This means that I drive as fast as possible without getting my license revolked during these trips and this equates to about 90mph sojourns between Dallas and Houston and speeds not much lower elsewhere on the drive. My truck is built for reliability and offroading, not autobahn cruising. So these drives absolutely wear me out and puts a huge strain me and my truck. My ears are ringing after every trip because of the cacophony of noise due to the lack of sound insulation in my truck and I'm wrestling with the truck to stay on course the entire trip.

Long story short I need a more appropriate vehicle for these trips!!! I have a good friend who love VWs and tried to get me into a TDI but the maintenance of a VW is not for me, it's dumb that they still use plastic impellers in their water pumps when it's clearly not a good idea. I have come to the conclusion that my best bet is a MB. They are perfect for high speed cruising. I would like to not feel half dead I get to my family and friends house so I can actually spend time with them. However, there are so many different MB models and each with multiple engine options I don't even know where to begin.

Please help!!! I need to figure out which models to weed out and which to consider. Here's a list of criteria important in my potential MB: <$20,000; have a range of at least 400+ miles (preferrably 500+ or more; hint hint:diesel powered MB); classic MB build quailty/engineering; toyota/honda like reliability without the maintenance regiment and cost of vw/audi; high speed stability and tractability; and sound INSULATION.

I have always been a MB fan so I really hope there is one out there that fits the bill!

Maybe an R Class W251 270 CDI? Pop into a dealer and pick up some brochures even though you do not want a new car, these will help with facts and figures etc.
