EC light on means problem with A/C system. Can you access the HVAC diagnostic display and provide the values for channels 1 through 9?

Access the display by pressing and holding the REST button until the display changes (5 seconds or so). Left side is channel, right side value. Advance channels by pressing the left side Auto button. Do this with engine running.

^^^^ What he said.

You'll find lots more technical information about your car in the appropriate model-specific forum. If it's the W140, then the W140 forum, and if the W210, then the W210 forum (check the stickies for HVAC information once there). This forum is really more about introducing yourself.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Welcome to Benzworld, the system may simply be low on freon.
