2008 S550 wheels shake at 50 plus poor shock absorption

My recent gift of a 2008 S550V4 with only 20,000 miles is slightly shaking at 50 mph and higher and does not seem to absorb the road bumps as smoothly as it should. The steering wheel does not shake. I had the wheels balanced at the local MB dealer and replaced one wheel. Not sure I trust them enough to go back. Anyone know about the hunter balancing machine and whether I should take the car to a non-MB dealer? Not sure it's a balancing issue. Thanks.

I'd think most dealers would have the Hunter Road Force balancer and it's the best there is. Talk to the service advisor regarding a test ride after balancing next time. And, replacing one wheel may not have been enough. Verify correct tire air pressures.

Thank you! After further research, I realize that it could be the following: 1) all 4 tires should match in terms of tire design, tread pattern and rubber composition and should be relatively in the same new condition. Seeing that Michelin Pilots and Perellis are suggested due to the fact that they require less weights, not to mention that they are high quality tires. Then dynamic balancing (opposed to static balancing) is required as well as a quality alignment.

The dealer did balance all 4 wheels and found "they are all out of balance by at least 30 grams." Afterward, he took it for a test drive and noted that "while the minor tire harshness is still there the balance issue is gone, found the harshness to be the nature of the tire installed on the vehicle". I assuming that the gift giver might have "cheaped" out on the tire which I am finding out that one cannot do with a $100K car.

Will most likely need to invest in 4 new excellent tires. Will have to look into whether the rims need to be replaced as well.

Thanks again!
