have to get windshield replaced. a couple questions..

Hi I am new here so forgive me if this is not the correct area to be posting about this!

I have a 2012 C300 Sport. Windshield was hit with a rock on the highway and is damaged. I called my dealer and they told me to call J.N. Phillips glass repair. guess they don't do glass work. called j.n. phillios and they advised to replace the entire glass rather then fill the crack.

J.N Phillips said they had to order the glass from the dealer. My question is will it be the same exact glass I have now? I read some posts about warranties being voided due to not having the "star" on their windshield. Because it is ordered from the dealer should it be a genuine MB windshield with the logo and barcode and whatnot?

i have never had a windshield replaced....a little nervous about leaking and wind noise. Has anyone had experience with this? if that happens can it be fixed? i am bringing the car in to have it replaced. not a come to my house deal.

any info would be appreciated! thanks

windshields

I have had two replaced, one on my 560SL and one on my 300CD. Neither leaked or whistled. Auto glass shops know what they are doing and the Mercedes gaskets are the best in the business.

I think that voiding a warranty because of non-OE glass replacement is absurd and will not happen. Ask your dealer. In my case, the cars were older and I could not get OE glass if I wanted it. Insisting on OE glass will result in a major delay and increased cost.

BTW, I paid for both replacements out of pocket and they were not very expensive, a little over $200 for the SL and a little under for the CD, including labor plus the gasket in one case. You should not have to replace the gasket on a car as new as yours.

I've replaced a few windshields on various cars while living in VA. I replaced my MB windshield once with an OEM windshield (MB star) because I wanted to ensure the rain sensor was correct. Since then, I've had a stone chip and just had the chip fixed for about $70 and the windshield is fine.
If I get another chip, then I will have the chip fixed again. It's cheap, easy and the windshield will probably be chipped again.

I would suggest calling your insurance company for their input on replacement vs. repair. Usually they have a relationship with a repair company and if the crack is not in a bad location or too big it can be repaired. I had a pretty big one fixed on a non-MB and it was really well done, but you need to have a pro look at it to get their input.

Good luck.
