turbine sound while driving

hello;

Got a 1983 300 CD turbo with 400,000 miles. Car is still in mint condition inside and out and drives smoothly and doesn't idle rough.

The last few days the car began to make a sound that sounds like a turbine engine coming up to speed when I accelerate and decreases when I slow down.

The car runs great, no change in performance or handling. When standing still the sound is gone and the car hums beautifully.

Any idea what that turbine like sound could be and what to do about it?

Thanks, appreciate the input

Sounds like that may possibly be a wheel bearing , I would check them for play and see how you go.

Garage
Check for an air leak

at one end or another of the big U-shaped tube running between the induction side and the turbine. This tube has a seal at both ends and is difficult to seat correctly.

If there is a leak, it will whistle.

turbine sound

Thank you for your response.

Turns out is the wheel bearing alright. The car also makes a 'cracking' noise when turning right.

Guess I need to have that checked by a mechanic.

Thanks.
