1983 rustedes benz

1983 rustedes benz 380 sec.
i am currently doing some bodywork on the sec we bought last summer.i have new front fenders coming, but cant find rear rust repair panels, anybody know where i can find these? also are the body parts the same for a 380 se.sel etc?
the previous owner got around the timing chain issue by installing a 400hp stroker 350 chev into it i.have had it running but haven't driven it yet, right now i am dealing with the stuck tumbler issue, and have read a lot about it on your forum.
ahh German technology! i found a good used one at an auto wreckers, took two hours to get it out,but no key. i am thinking of robbing my 79 sl of its tumber if i can get the sec into position 1. any help on this would be appreciated!

I don't believe any of the body panels are compatible with the sedans. And what panels are you looking for? You'll want to fill out your profile and tell us where you are so we can give suggestions accordingly. Welcome to the community.

hmmm. I hate to say it, but I did a little more research and the two are not interchangeable. I'm not sure about the repair panel. There's a slight possibility you'll have to order the whole quarter/unibody panel. You may want to start a thread in the 126 specific section to see if the old pros can help you.

found it quit confusing,no listings for sec fender , but i found several sites for 380 se,that said fits, sel, sec etc including an auto wreckers that showed fenders for a sel, also fits se and sec.so i guess i will know for sure when i pick them up next week. i do however hope your wrong.
still struggling with the ignition.
also took a look at a sel at a friends shop, fenders looked the same but... found another se at the auto wreckers..may pull the fender off it and try mine on it tomorrow,if mine fits it,then it will fit mine! or maybe i will be listing a brand new set of fenders for an 82 sel....please leave your name and phone# just incase!!

I hope I'm wrong too! I know you guys in Canada don't have it as easy for car parts as we do here. Start a thread in the 126 section to maybe save yourself some time and money. Maybe even one of our friends up north can hook you up with a fender. About the ignition, peachparts.com has a few VERY detailed few threads on exactly how do drill out the lock. Mine was stuck a few months ago, luckily it ended up just being the steering wheel lock, but I was prepared to drill it out with the instructions from peachparts. Obviously before you go destroying stuff you might want to try some wd-40 or something. Normally that's ill-advised since it can attract dirt, but since you just want to get it working one time to replace it, might as well try it. You just need to get it into the first position to make it so you don't have to drill it out, if i remember correctly.

just got in the house after a day at the auto wreckers and removing the old ignition, and installing a good used one.found a se with the key still in the ignition!!
ended up drilling mine out, used a good 3/8 drill and cut the tumbler back until,. all the brass was gone, used a sharp screw driver to pry out the rest and out it came.moved ignition to the run position and removed it from the column that was resting in my lap.had major trouble removing the wire cap though..found out why after i ground the screws off...that little butterfly thing i guess was not quit lined up. any who got it back together with the new switch, put battery back in and started it up..needs fresh gas but its running again! just need to tighten everything up and re install the gauges. anyone know where i can get a mercedes to chevy speedo cable or adapter?
will let you know how i made out with the fenders!

well, picked up the new fenders from orville wash a couple days ago.your right they dont quit fit, looks like the difference is around the nose of the fender, the sec is longer and pointed.also under the signal light is about 3/8 of an inch wider on the sel.
however i can cut the lower fender off and use it to repair the lower fender on the sec.then use the wheel arch to repair the opposite side wheel arch, so all is not lost.
still looking for a mer to chev speedo cable or other ideas?
