New Member, 1st Benz (96 E320); questions
Hello everyone; I just bought a 1996 E320 from a friend, and have been cleaning/fixing it up. Even though it's been around for a while, I've really enjoyed driving this car! This is the first car I've owned that requires almost 8 quarts for an oil & filter change. I found Mobil-1, 0W-40 on sale, 5qt & filter for $32.99, so I got 10 qts & 2 filters (one Bosch, one Mann). Both filters look identical to me, except for the brand name stamps on them.
I have to replace the battery & got quote for a Duralast Platinum H6-AGM with 730 cold cranking amps @ 0 degrees F., 3 year free replacement, for $154.99. The reason I mention it is the owner's manual states the battery must be capable of being turned upside down for 15 minutes without leaking any acid. I believe the MB dealer quoted $119 for a 2 year battery (but didn't get any specs from him). Any recommendations?
Finally, are there some common tips or things to check for on this car? I understand the cylinder head was re-machined and the valves replaced at 270,000 miles. Also, some of the pixels are dim or don't display on the odometer/trip odometer/temp, clock. It appears to be a single unit, & I did see some kits online to replace the flat cable to fix it. Anyone tried that fix?
