Post New R320 owner

Hello all, I'm excited to be here, I just wanted to pick some brains here. Just purchased an 08 R320 cdi for my wife. Car is beautiful and we really like it. I'm somewhat new to Mercedes, I've Owned one in the past and loved the car, I just had to get another one. My first question is about oil. I've never Owend a diesel I'm thinking this is normal but the oil on dipstick is jet black, I'm like 8000 miles from my schedule A. Im just a little concerned about that. Also there seems to be a very slight oil leak, looks like its coming from the drip pan area? Any thoughts? The last question is my rear entertainment system. The DVD player works great half of the time. It is very sensitive and will only play certain DVDs,most of the time it just says disc error. Are these problems common, or is this something I should just ignor cause this is just how it is. Everything else about the car is fantastic.

Thanks In advance for your comments.

Welcome to the forum. By drip pan do you mean the oil pan at the bottom of the engine? If so it could be the oil pan gasket. Fairly simple fix. Drop the pan while doing an oil change and put on a new gasket.

Oil pan gasket

I think you could be right about the gasket. I looked under the car and reached up around the pan and could feel a mushy type gasket of some sort that was pretty saturated with oil. It's not due for an oil change for another 7500 miles. Would you say it would be ok until then? Or is changing the oil and gasket early a good idea.

Thanks for all the replys this is truly helpful.
