I think my car is done for

Hi all, I am a new member seeking advice from other owners and enthusiasts regarding my 1996 C220 that I have had for 12 years. I have done the regular maintenance and had to spend very little to maintain this vehicle and it has been wonderful. Before I go any further, I must say that I know very little about cars, not because I don't want to but was just never exposed to working on them, so please forgive my ignorance. My coolant light came on about two weeks ago and I refilled it the next morning before I started the engine. I was a little surprised as I try to check my fluids at the beginning of the month. I noticed that there was light brown creamy fluid in there when I added the fresh coolant. I also added about 3/4 of a quart of oil. I was driving home from work yesterday and was about 1/4 mile from my house when my oil light came on. I also noticed that my temperature shot up very high. I also smelled fumes in the cabin. I pulled in my driveway and raised my hood and that creamy brown fluid was dripping from my coolant area. This morning when I checked it, it was the same and there is coolant all in my oil. My friend said it is a head gasket issue and I'll also have a wiring harness issue and that it will cost more than the car is worth. I know my car is older and has about 135k on it. It's not in mint condition but good and needs to have the paint redone and the a/c fixed. However, I just moved across the country and I'm tight on cash but need a vehicle for work. Is it best to retire the car or is it worth it to fix? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Given the age and mileage and the fact that you cannot diy, get rid of it soon.
