I try to buy German small appliances like coffee makers (Braun and Krups), toasters, blenders and the like. My Braun coffee maker lasted over 15 years but I'd have to look where it was actually assembled. The Krups replacement was made in China.
And then there are the German large appliances by Bosch like dishwashers, refrigerators and ovens. IIRC they are not very well rated by Consumer's Reports and I don't know where those are assembled.
I know nothing about the Grohe brand of plumbing supplies but if anything is stamped "Made in Germany" I don't hesitate to buy it, even paying more money.
Like many other companies in all parts of the world, the German companies are outsourcing their labor to other countries. Just a guess but I would suspect your Grohe faucets were not made using good German steel and German worker's labor.
