Post I work on my own Benz

I own a 1994 Mercedes E420, i have worked on a lot of different things in the past and the 4.2 liter in this car looks similar to the first gen for dohc 4.6 liter v8 that came out in the Lincoln mark 7. i have also worked on Detroit diesel 6v92 engines and Detroit 40 series diesels for a while now as well. i seem to be running across this constant problem, mass air flow meters that go bad all of a sudden, either because the heater wire came undone or because the circuitry went bad in the sensor its self. what i want to find out is if there is anyone out there who rebuilds these or if there is anyone out there who knows where i can find components like the heat wire or the computer used to calibrate these pieces of crap. i was also wondering if i can put a mass air flow meter from a ford cobra or a lincoln mark seven in place of the overly priced bosch piece of crap i currently have under the hood?

i am currently running with it unplugged until i can solve this matter, i don't get the stupid stumbles and surging and crap gas mileage i did when i ran with it plugged, even though now its not the best, i still get around 16 or 17 mpg on the highway and no signs of hesitation...

i am also going to have to pull the transmission oil pan off and adjust my clutch bands but first i want to either fix my mass air flow meter issue or eliminate it completely...

does anyone out there know of a good performance chip? or a performance transmission parts like valve bodies or performance clutches
