Revisit EIS and the greenkey - is Peter Guenther in theHouse?

I have read the more recent policy on how MBUSA requires the EIS be precoded with the VIN# at the distribution center before the dealership install them. And I understand why for security reasons they track modules and keys in the database and why they only want the dealer to install.

My EIS has internally failed on the K-line and cannot communicate with STAR. I need it to in order to perform an upgrade from keylessGo “Card” to KeylessGO “Key” and thus communicate with an upgraded KeylessGo Key module that I have ready to install.

I have a brand new EIS with a valid part number that is one part number prior to the most recent rev (that is "old stock") prior to the most recent EIS's p/n that are precoded with the VIN. This means that this older stock EIS should be programmable in STAR to replace the broken K-line EIS I current have installed and resolve this coms problem.

EPC states that for this EIS part number; “to use up old stock first" before ordering the newer EIS for customers.

So, what I think I need to do is order a new KeylessGo Key and when it arrives, ask the dealership to install my new (previous rev) EIS since they are the only ones who would access to the Green Key to program it.

I am right in thinking this? When I order a new key and it's known that the EIS is being swapped out too (old stock version) that a Green Key would also be made available? I guess it’s a question to ask the dealership.

I would like to talk to Peter Guenther since he has the 8 pages on security from the Service manual. Peter? Can you be kind enough to please call me? 713 628 0713

Anyone have any suggestions / comments on how to proceed?
Cheers
Jim
