ML 320 engine smoke.....

i noticed that while starting cold engine it smokes mixed colored from the exhaust, dark bule + white + black, this happens very rarely, not every day, sometimes it smokes when i do kickdown, but when i do this again it does not smoke any more, it some only once, at the first starting in the morning, or at the moment of kickdown, but very rarely. what do you think about this? engine oil is at max, i am checking it every day and after changing oil i have run almost 600 miles, and the engine oil level is at the same possition as it was after changing it.

Where are you?

Please fill in your profile with User CP ^^ showing model/year/location as this often helps with forum answers. Also find your model forum (W163?) and post your questions there, as folks with your car will be more knowlegable about typical faults.

If you're not consuming engine oil, I would not be too concerned. Some of the white exhaust will be water vapour condensing to steam in cold air, which is normal on a cold start.

Sounds as though a head gasket is on its way out but that would not be the cause of the black smoke. Black fuel is excess fuel, white is coolant, and blue is oil. As the vehicle sits overnight a slight amount of oil will work its way into the ring gaps and will sit overnight until start up. Once the vehicle is started then the excess oil is burnt off causing the smoke on start up. After the vehicle obtains operating temperature, the metals expand causing the leak to seal up.

+1 ^

Very logical reply, which could be the situation here. I have also realized that 600 miles is too few to check the oil level.

i have no idea about this, it smokes sometimes, very rarely, smoke is mixed color, not blue, black or white, when it smokes once, after that it wont smoke any more.
