One of my E430s got the rain sensor wiper. I'll test it when the next hail storm hit my area and this forum will be the first to know the outcome.

And the diesel with its exceptional torque does not shift within the torque range when driving with the throttle applied. I have to force an up shift by letting off the pedal and then reapplying pressure because the paddle shifters don't up shift.
Something odd here, the tranny should up-shift from the paddles if there is headroom in the engine RPM. Mine are not the same model but at steady speed mine shifts up at a speed where the engine goes down to 1000 rpm after the up-shift.

Do you drive at the Sport or the Comfort transmission program (or what ever the equivalent is in your car)? A 2008 MY MB should start from second gear at "C" (and it shifts up to the seventh gear).

The USA version of the GL320 does not have C or S switch. Because the diesel has a very good torque curve of 1200-3000 rpm (or close to it), I would like to up shift at the 3000 rmp mark while hard on the throttle - the transmission will not do that. If I leave the transmission in Drive setting, it will shift long after the torque goes down.

The American version paddle shifters at least for diesel are only limiting the top gear, like towing a load and going up/down hills.

Somewhat disillusioned...
This is a great driver's car, except for the comand center and lack of gauges.
The little gremlins come and go at will.
