Post Introduction 1978 450SL

Hi Guys

I'm new to this forum, and am doing up a 1978 450SL.

This was my dream car since I was very young and its finally happening. I bought it with 26 years of Mercedes history, followed by 5 years 'Euro specialists' service history, and the last 3 years only back yard oil changes as it became an occasional weekend car.

I build a workshop with a Hoist for doing up his car. In the last 3 months, I've do most of the service items, as well as replaced all the front-end rubber and brakes.

Now I'm in the middle of the Vacuum checking and just ordered the parts for the trunk vacuum actuator and new diaphrams for the passenger door actuator. The lines were all ok. I hope that with these leaks fixed the heating valves work ok again as I dont really want to take the dash out (or perhaps I do but not for that reason).

Also the gear changes are quite rough. Not sure if this is vacuum related, oil overfill related, the nature of the transmission or another problem.
I also sometimes have no 'engagement' when putting the car in reverse just after starting. If I drive 10cm forward in drive, then Reverse does engage...

Anyway hope to be an active participant in the forums. ps If you are interested, I maintain a blog with my fixes on 450 SL

Kind regards
Marco
