I have been seeing a lot of talk about the Chinese Carsoft MB7.4 Interface Digital Tool and wanted to see if it would be a useful addition to the tool-kit.
My Car is a year 2000 S500L which has an OBD2 socket located in the panel underneath the steering wheel
I followed the link to the product that was posted here
at message #17 which took me to this
I purchased the kit and waited for it to arrive.
This is what was delivered:
+ all of the cables that can be seen in the suppliers advert.
I have an oldish laptop that has a serial port so I installed the software which went well and proceeded to try to read the codes from my car.
The multiplexer was recognised by the laptop so I connected the OBD2 cable to the car with the key turned to position 2 and initialised a full automatic digital diagnostic which started to scan for information.
30 minutes later the scan finished with only ONE module being read which was the ME module which reported, Status: OK: All other modules reported, Status: Module is not built in or does not respond.
I then tried a single diagnosis of all modules listed but the ME module was the only one to respond. I then switched to 'Live data' which displayed everything when the engine was running.
I then looked at the pin-out of the OBD2 plug in the Carsoft software and found the following:
This suggests that only 2 of the 16 connections of the OBD2 cable are not used. So I opened the plug of the supplied cable to find this:
The various modules seem to be associated with connections in the OBD2 socket. In my cable the yellow wire is connected to pin no 7 which in the pin-out is associated with modules MSM/CDI/ME with module ME being read in my case (maybe the other two listed or not installed in my car)
The description of the item clearly states:
MCU controlled Interface for Mercedes Benz Carsoft 7.4 which is compatible with the original interface.
Do folk think I have been supplied with the wrong cable/multiplexer? Can anyone who has purchased the same kit from the above supplier tell me if the modules fitted to their vehicle show up during a scan. Or can anyone with the kit open up the plug on the OBD2 cable to check how many wires are connected.
The kit is reading some information but not all I was expecting.
Any info or thoughts would be appreciated.
I am also waiting for an answer from the supplier.
