I just wanted to say thanks once again...I followed your advice and am planning to take my car the Mercedes Dealer here in Beaumont Texas where I live. I was able to speak speak to the Mercedes Service Manager there today and described my problem...and he was very nice and helpful and said EXACTLY what you said with regard to the car being "stuck" in 2nd or 3rd gear. He said it wasn't "stuck"...but it was likely in "limp mode" exactly as YOU said. I told him some of the things I was being told by other shops about having to "replace" the transmission. HE SAID THEY HAVE "NEVER" HAD TO "REPLACE" A TRANSMISSION...HE SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH (in his opinion) THE TRANSMISSION WAS DESIGNED VERY POORLY BY MERCEDES BENZ... STILL THEY ARE "YET" TO HAVE TO REPLACE AN ENTIRE TRANSMISSION.
So anyway... I took that as encouragement and at least it "sounded" as though he was "shooting straight" with me. He said; "Ken, I have no reason NOT to shoot straight with you, it isn't as though (like the sales guys) we get some sort of "commission" on repair jobs. If they're broke...we fix them, end of story.
I am going to get him to print out the codes for me and I will post them back here for further advice and guidance from YOU guys. Thanks again!
