Going to check out a late model diesel
Hi all, My father used to own a late model diesel benz that he bought at an auto auction. I was very young when he owned the car but loved the classic lines. He unfortunately lost the vehicle in a wreck with a person w/o insurance.
Many years later financial crisis struck our family, and now many years after that we are entertaining the idea of buying back a similar version of the old boxey-benz to restore. Among other toys of our families history
I have a seller who claims the transmission is shot but the engine "runs good" im asking myself, how can he know that it runs "good" and not that it merely just "runs"
and basically am asking if there are any detailed reports on what the 2.5l diesel engine is known to have error prone. I am not in the least bit familiar with these diesel engines aside from very basic things (like glow plugs)
Is there a resource/subforum that is dedicated to these old 190d's?
And any very important problems that are prone to this engine? As, with a blown transmission, the reliability of the engine is a key factor in making the transaction wortwhile.
