Seat Bealt Waring Light Stays On

I have a 1998 SL500 and I left the interior light on overnight which weaken the battery. The car started but now the seat belt warning light stays on. I had the car checked out by my local Mercedes shop. They ran it through their computer and cleared the codes. They checked the seat belt buckles and the computer show they work properly but the light is still on. My plan is to leave it with them to do further diagnosis.

Has anyone had a similar experience and what was the remedy?

If the light stays on, there must be a code that Star Diagnosis can report. Should you consider another workshop?

It was suggested to me by a Mercedes tech. at the dealer to disconnect the battery for 15 seconds then reconnect the battery and that might clear the code before bringing it to them for further diagnosis.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Yes, that is like rebooting your car's computer(s) and it will fix a lot of things. Just disconnect the negative battery terminal and have the key out of the ignition. You'll probably have to resynchronize some things like the windows. Steps for that will be in your owner's manual and/or found on the proper SL-Class forum.
