Looking for advise on best maintenance and repair/replacement knowledge for my 4 year old ML-350.
After 3 years of driving our (wife used for a year previous to me - She fell in love with a BMW 535xi - my next car!!!) I have been very happy with the performance of this vehicle. Feels light and agile, but tough, as the vehicle has taken some hits and driven away each time.
Maintenance costs bring a wince when I am read the bill total. Very comfortable and reliable. Only issue we have had are a defective steering column and tail door not opening and closing properly. Steering column replaced and rear gate adjusted and this car has taken my wife and I reliably from Denver to SoCal a few times with assurance. Drove through snow storms one winter from Albuquerque to Denver without too much worry.
My wife is the car nut, and we were looking for a new SUV and tested the ML-350 in the snow-packed Denver side streets, with 4-5' snow pot-holes. It handled the bad conditions beautifully. Then I was surprised by the get-up-and-go of the V6 engine with the 7 speed auto transmission. The engine can rev high and smooth, and the 7 speed gear ratio helps keep the engine accelerating the car in it's horse-power and torque sweet spot.
Now, I am wanting to check out what people are doing to make their ML-350 vehicles run long and efficiently.
Tires: The OEM tires wore out at 20K due to Denver's roads. Put some Continental Cross Contact and the performance is improved and quieter. Going to get these again.
