Extended Warranty for a CPO Mercedes??

I Live in San Jose, California and recently brought a Certified Pre Owned 2010, C300 with 20600 mikes on it. It has the premium package and UMI Navigation. It has the Mercedes certified warranty till 2014 December/100K miles.

Do you guys recommend I get the 2 year/135K miles warranty which would start after the end of the certified warranty. What is the optimum amount I should pay for it? I was almost ripped off by the dealer when tried to sell me that extended warranty for $4000.

I bought my 2001 E320 with 53,000 miles as a CPO in 2006. I paid to extend that to 7/100,000 which was the allowable maximum at the time. I was probably ripped off like you almost were because I just paid what they asked me for which was close to $3000. I have since learned we can shop those around between dealers but any dealer will honor them. Even though I probably paid too much that warranty was as good as gold and more than paid for itself. Good luck with whatever you decide.

BTW something else has changed since I bought mine. I was told I had to buy it at the time of vehicle purchase but I believe you can now buy it at any time during the new car or CPO warranty you have now.

Extended warranty is insurance and just like any insurance it is having lot of fine print that you should study.
I bought it once on our new ML and it was money down the drain as the "bumper to bumper" warranty did not cover cracked trim and couple other small issues. Truck was mechanically perfect.
If you are DIY the 4 grands can buy you lot of parts and maintenance

Hmmm...

I used almost since the I already paid the dealer the 4 grand for warrant on the condition that I could cancel it anytime before the warranty period starts.
Yeah, its just these last few days that I realised that you shop around for warranties much like you do around for vehicles...but on a lower intensity.
Anyway thanks for the info guys.
I am certainly not a DIY, and with a Mercedes which is literally my first car, I do not plan to fix things myself. Hence I do have to go with a warranty and I probably have to shop around for it.
Thanks again for the info guys....Much appreciated

If I read it correctly , you have 3 years of CPO warranty on the car before the extended warranty click in and you can get your 4 grands back in this period?
I would drive the car and right before that moment arrive made my mind. If the car turns to be mechanically perfect, I would take my money back and apply it to potential repairs at indy shop. If the car turns to have a lot of problem -keep extended warranty.
Bare in mind, that warranty triggers chain reaction. Since it is "free income" for the shops, each time you take the car for the repair, they will "find something else that require immediate repair" and since the warranty covers it, the owner don't check if the repair is really needed.
4 grands buys you about 10 years old Mercedes in good condition this days.

Sorry for the late reply guys

I have decided to cancel the warranty and ride out the car for a while. Later, will give the extended warranty a thought.

Thanks for the info guys\, certainly helpful in calling my decision.
