ChevyMobile vs. Nisssan-Benz

Just as MB seems to be emphasizing better 'quality', at least that is what Dr. Dieter is telling us (Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of MB), comes the MB engines built by Nissan-Renault. Ok, so it is a joint venture by MB with Nissan to build engines in a common plant, but frankly I find it to be a watering down of the 'brand' and not invited.

I have owned several MB's and want as close to the three pointed star as all that extra cost entails. GM did the ChevyMobiles, when they installed Chevy V-8's in Oldsmobiles, and really got stung for that. And they should have, as the Olds engine was superior in a number of engineering ways.

And MB is still under the cloud of the dreaded Balance Shaft in 350's and Sprockets on 5.0V8s'

BMW outsold MB last year, 2011, not by much, but did so, nevertheless.

Is it time for me to switch to a 'propeller' (BMW) or a slanted L (Lexus)? I dearly love my R-Class, but my son has two Lexus, that he loves, and his father in law traded in a newly-new cherry MB convertible for a new BMW 5-Series.

MB should be super careful, the high end is going to become even more competitive, now that Cadillac thinks it can compete with 3-Series and C-Classes (school is definitely out on how many 3.6's GM can stuff in how many cars).

I's just saying...

And how do you compare that to the fact that in good ole USA there is not even 10% items sold that are manufactured in USA.
I recall some OEM parts on W211 with "Made in Chech Republic" stamps, so the issue is a history this way, or the other.
