New Owner of a W212 E350

Well, I’m now a member of the Mercedes clan with the lease of a new E350. As you can see I’ve been a member since early 2008. I was contemplating a C63 at the time but decided to stay with my 300 SRT8.

The 300 was traded for the E. It was a great car and brutally fast; albeit with a few mods. It loved to rev high and was complimented by everyone car lovers and not for its looks, speed and especially its exhaust sound. Yes, I miss it but after 5 years it was time to go.

So with that I now have the E350. I wanted the E550 since I was accustomed to V8 power but I didn’t want to pay that kind of money right now. The V6 is ok but nowhere near the “fun factor” my previous car was. I do love the E350 though. It is elegant inside and out and I have few complaints. It is a great road car and can travel at triple digit speeds with an ease that is almost a surreal experience compared to my other car. It is quiet at any speed and smooth on almost all road surfaces even though it has the Sport Package. I would classify the interior as elegant without overdoing it and I LOVE the “Hockey Stick” LED’s on the front. They look way better than the 2012 “everybody has one” straight across LED’s you see on the other models Mercedes has as well as its competitors.

A few questions/comments about the car:

1. Head room is lacking for the driver. Is this just me? I’m 5'11" but tall in the torso and my head hits the headliner unless the seat is ALL the way down, steering wheel fully extended, and seat tilted back a bit. My other car had this issue to but not quite this bad.

2. Driver’s seat feels comfortable but after a long drive my back feels like it belongs to someone else. I also develop a pain just below my right shoulder blade after driving it for a while. Is this due to MB-Tex? Anyone else have this problem?

3. The V6 will get you going but seriously; Paddle Shifters!? With any kind of acceleration the engine sounds rough and manual up shifts are VERY lazy. This is a luxury sedan, not a “Boy Racer” like some other models. Wishful thinking on Mercedes part?

4. Are there any issues I should be aware of or is there anything you guys can tell me about my car that will give me a better understanding/knowledge of my car?

Congratulations on your new ride.
