'81 300D won't start, just replaced starter

1980 300D won't start. Would sometimes start after 5-10 attempts and jiggling the shifter. Just replaced starter and now doesn't start at all. Fuse is fine. What else can I try? New ignition coil? New switch?

fuel pump or clogged fuel filter....if the car turns over but wont fire up likely the problem. Starter issue would be easily identified by this difference if the car is turning over and trying to fire up it's a fuel supply issue or compression issue.

IF the car when you turn the starter over just clicks and you put boosters on it still having same problem this would be a starter issue.

Since the starter is replaced try the prior to resolve the issue....also check that glowplugs aren't clogged and in need of replacement.

Many companies build cars...But only one company built THE CAR, with 125 years of tradition and innovation only one name started it all...Mercedes Benz

I am confused.
Is it that engine is turning and will not start, or the starter in not turning the engine?
