Smile Introduction Requesting help

This is your golden opportunity to share your passion with some one who really wants to know what you love about your Mercedes. I am the long time owner of classic Porsche 911. I am completing a frame off restoration of a classic VW. This Srping the 911 goes up for sale. I love classic cars and belong to such a club. I have decided I want to purchase a classic Mercedes-Benz. I am of German descent. I love German Cars. My wife won't ride it the Porsche (it scares her). After selling my 911 I want to buy an older classic Mercedes. I'd like something comfortable so my wife and I can drive long distances together. I want good (not great) mpg's. I'd like a Mercedes that combines luxury with reliability (I want to avoid excessive maintainance, repairs and any well known faults). My model of Porcshe was purchased, because it is rock soild, drop dead gorgeous, requires little maintenace, but with good maintenance will last a very long time and be very reliable (who ever gets my 911 will be very happy). I'd like to get a Mercedes, preferable 4 door, that fits the same bill. I personally love the olders models with wheel covers painted the same color as the car. I love the look of the old grill with the four head lights and fog lamps as well. I am seeking all and any advice, becasue I want a classic Mercedes that will make my wife feel safe, be reasonably economical, and be a pleasure to drive long distances. If you can advise me, perhaps on why you love your Mercedes and why I might want to emulate your choice or any advice, I will appreciate it. Thank you. I hope to soon join your ranks as an owner. John
