there was damage to the rear of my MB... the body damage was not huge, but
it was enough to cause damage to the MB factory Bose stereo amplifier.(caused
by sheet metal pushing up against a steel fram that was holding the amplifier.
the insurance company was very speedy in cutting me a check... as far as the
bodywork and painting is concerned, it's very fair... and my MB dealer's body
shop accepted the insurance company's offer and is working on vehicle right
however, the stereo amplifier and associated wiring/brackets are another
story. the insurance company will only pay for a $200 refurbished amp.
they made me go to their shop that does only car electronic repairs.
a quick check on eBay and several online company shows the exact amp
(refurbished or used) for around $400. I guess the insurance company
works with some company to obtain it for only $200?
I do not
expect them to pay for a new MB replacement amp,
which the MB parts dept quoted as $1700. (highway robbery) My vehicle is
7 years old... Or should I insist on a new amp.... or a refurbished amp that
has some sort warranty for several months to a year? Prior to the damage,
it worked flawlessly.
I'm just afraid that if I push too hard, the insurance company will see the
extra $1000 as a reason to raise my rates. (this incident was listed as a
"no fault" claim)
Any advice appreciated!
