Post classy student ride: W202/W124 versus others...

Hello, everyone! I'd like to explain my position and seek you advice or suggestions.
I'm 20yo, this is going to be my first car, but even though im a noob in cars I never understood people buying vanilla Honda's or Lexuses, rather I want something euro-classy from early 90's, my budget is from 1500 to 4000CAD for car, but ofcourse the top plank is for a virgin clean car that really apeals. For example, for merc or a bimmer its ok, but if you advice me into buying a maxima or integra then ofcourse my limit will be 2k)))

I've never been under cars but have some friends plus eager to learn, though automatic tranny is only option yet. Also i might consider dropping the car and putting some wheels, but so far the requirements are limited by black leather and sunroof

So far i've done my reseach mainly relying on my estetic senses and want advice of pro's on more serious issues:

My main considerations where i need your advice are:
a) Differences among the selected cars on insurance rates (Toronto baby,eh)
b) Differences on mainenatce costs, parts. which cars are cheaper for parts, which most expensive
c) resale capabilities, which lose value, which hold more.
d) your personal feelings and experience...

I know every baker thinks his bread is the best, but there's a number of cars I consider, so here they are...PAM PAM PARARAM)))

1. Baby merc W202
2. Mercedes W124
3. Bmw E36 4door
4. Bmw E34 (525 M50)
5.Acura EL
6. Nissan Maxima 2000-04
7. VW Golf or Jetta 98-2003

maybe there's more suggestions? I guess tint, rims can make any car look good

assuming your in school i'd advise against a german car. Even if your not, the saying 'no such thing as a cheap mercedes' holds true and advise against it. I'm also 20, and have been down the cheap mercedes road with an '84 190e. It's not fun, and a large waste of $$. IMO one of your biggest problems(other than budget) is not knowing how to work on cars, which easily saves thousands a year, especially on older cars that need work.

yes older MB's are cool but they really don't get noticed, most newer domestics/japs have the same options and drive just as nice, and MB's/BMW's are way more expensive. IMO the reliability risk is no where near the risk...

No matter what you pick, your on an extremely limited budget you shouldn't even think of putting rims/lowering/or tinting your car.

My 19 years old son drive 1987 Mercedes.
Obviously he is having father who fix everything on the car.
He liked red Audi better, but got rear ended in front of High School in graduation year.
Even with my mechanical skills I got burned on BMW, while VW are great small cars, but they seem to be more expensive than MB lately on this side of the pond.
Tough choice, but I have to prize OP for doing his homework.

Which kukuruznik do you prefer, the Po-2 or the An-2?

I would rather convert the letters to "kukuriznik"
I wonder if fly knows what that means in the first place.
An2 become collectible vehicles in former East Block. Just like Gold-wings in US.

Some Slav you are, using Google translator for Russian, nice try yourself. Gotta give you credit, though, sixteen thousand posts of drivel is commendable. I've been here two years longer, was a moderator for three and you still got me beat by over ten thousand posts.

You know, it helps when you know what you are typing about. ....
My Russian is rusted, but the language has logic similar to Polish, what is totally different from English.
Google translation between Russian and Polish are pretty good, while doing it in English is a disaster.
For example "teach" and "learn" in those languages are same word and it is the sentence it is used in to tell the difference.
So coming back to "kukuriza" that means corn. From what I heard the name "kukuriznik" was given slow flying airplanes that were used to spray pesticide over corn fields.

Haha, guys. EasterN Europe FTW =)
But seriously, since it's a Merc forum, can you outline me the main issues on W202 and W124 what to look for, what for sure breaks in them over passage of km...Like I've learned most Subaru's Legacy have head gasket leakages after 100k or so. Where to look at in Mercedeses w202/w124?
