Locked out!

HELP!

A friend of mine has a '96 W202 but is locked out of his own car! It would seem the battery has run low, and now the remote fob is not being recognised.

We have managed to open the bonnet, and now have access to the boot, but we are still locked out of the car. The only key he has fits the ignition but not the doors and we need to get into the car to reprogramme the fob.

How do we get in without smashing a window?

Do you have the original key fob?
For many, if not all models, there is a metal key inside of it.

snide remarks aren't looked upon kindly in this forum, especially when you're the one asking for help. Most would assume you'd be smart enough to call the MB dealer, who would've told you they can cut a spare for ~$30

And if you service your MB at the dealer, you will get MB roadside assistance for no charge...

Jammy1: Check the FOB. The rear of it. There is a little "slide" there. Slide it and pull out the Metal Key. It is ATTACHED to the Round Metal Key Ring. Slide it out. Use that Key to open the Passenger Door and Trunk. Check to see if the dash odometer registers anything. If it does, you have enough battery energy to power the FOB. If the Dash does not register then yes I would say it's your battery. If all checks out, just replace the batterys in the FOB.

If you have the clicker on your fob they crash out after 80,000 lock/unlock cycles, so if your fob batteries are ok, then the fob itself may be dead. Try your second key to verify.
