Vacuum pipe identification (what am I looking at here)

Hi folks,

I am from down under and in a bit of a pickle. I own a 1979 280CE. Have spent the last few days over and under the old ship doing a few jobs and have noticed a few vacuum pipes which end in thin air or have been blocked off.

I have taken a few pics which are attached.

Pic 1: Firstly, what is that little component? Secondly, where is that little vacuum pipe that is resting on my finger meant to lead to or where has it lead to in the past. It seemed to have been blocked off with some silicone. Is that standard procedure

Pic 2 and 3: This is a vacuum pipe that just seems to end in thin air near the distributor. Funnily enough there is a metal receptor nipple close by, which you can also see in picture 2, which has been deliberately crushed. Pic 3 shows the oringin of vacuum pipe and it seems to be imbedded into a rather substantial air pipe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks a lot in advance for your time
