Like others have said, posts here (and really, on any car forum) are often about finding answers to problems. Not at all reflective of the overall reliabilty of the car.

EVERY modern car is reliable. If they weren't the manufacturer would be out of business (well, at least not selling cars in the US). Routine maintenance? Any dealership, no matter what brand, is about the same for labor cost. Parts might be less on other brands, but not by much. And some could be more.

Thing is, pick a car that suits you personally (and fits in your budget, of course!). In the long run, no matter what brand you choose, it will cost you about the same as everything else out there.

PS. My '98 C230 is NOT expensive to maintain, it is VERY reliable and it has NEVER left me stranded (and yes, I've had it since '98). The CPO 2008 C300 has been equally same. I'm sure many other brand owners can crow the same, though if you really dig the E550 then go for it.

Not sure about the same cost. Lot of cars have timing belts, that need to be replaced about every 80,000 miles. On VW that can be $ 4-digits service.
Sure make driving MB way more affordable.
