Advice needed on w123

I have o good looking 85 200t with 4cyl n 4 speed manual.
the transmission is no good ,have 2 options but need to know what works better .
-can get a good 4cyl n 4 spped manual out of a 240d for $500 n convert this to a diesel wagon .
-found an 84 280te with 4 speed manual (parts car but good tranny)
wich of these 2 will fit in mine with minimal work and what has a better outcome.
car is a keeper ,no rust ,clean ,163kmiles ,new clutch ,alternator,battery.....but no a/c.
any advice will help
thnx a lot

Clearly, converting it to a diesel in addition to swapping transmissions is more work, so I would go with the 280TE option.

Than diesel will keep the value for ever, while the gasoline MB mostly end on junk yards.
Decision, decisions. ...
