Temperature Dial Diagnosis

Hi All,

I'm new to the list and I've already learned a ton of stuff from various posts. I have recently acquired a 1982 380SL (our first Mercedes). It's in very nice condition, with 75,000 miles on the odometer. I have a question about the heater temperature dial. When I start the car and have the heater on, dialed--let's say to 22-26--it works well and heats very efficiently. BUT, if I decide to adjust the dial down a bit, or change one of the settings, it stops pushing hot air and just pushes air. If I then turn off the car and start it again, it will again push hot air.

I'm figuring that this has something to do with a vacuum leak somewhere--turning off and restarting the car reestablishes vacuum, which was lost when I decided to re-adjust the controls. Is this an accurate diagnosis? Is this a difficult fix?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jim
