Question New member from Germany

Hi Everyone, I am a new member from Germany and currently drive a 2002 w163 430ML. It has a LPG conversion and the engine runs perfect. Currently 270k km on the clock, and less than 1 liter oil consuption between oil changes.

One great car if not for the "RUST" issues we had. Luckily, MB have virtually re-painted the whole car at different intervals when the rust started to show its ugly face ! Except for the welds on the chassis, the car is now rust free and looks like new.

The only problem I have is with the transmission. When cold, everything is fine. When warm, the forward gears change smooth as they should, but, after you reverse and shift to Drive, nothing happens for some time and then gradually the forward movement comes. If during this time the accellerator is pushed, the forward drive comes with a sudden and hard bang with a jump forward as the result.

The dealer wants to sell me a new transmission, but everything seems to work fine except for the situation described above. I suspect an electrical or hydraulic valve sticking problem, but I cannot find any repair manual that gives any information in this direction.

Therefore I would be greatful for any professional advice that would help me make a final diagnosis and possibly repair.
