Must We use Vented Batteries??

I own a 93 190e 2.3 and had an alternator problem as it was sending 16volts to my battery (bad v reg)which caused my battery to blow up. I changed out my alternator and I am looking to get a new battery. Is it necessary to by a vented battery as the auto parts store suggested?? Why do they suggest this for my car?? Are there any problems that may arise if I dont? Thanks in advance for any information

What's your objection to using a vented battery? Are they against your religion or something?

Doesn't 190e have battery mounted in engine compartment?
Such a location allow any kind of battery.
Vented battery is for trunk, or under the seat installation.
Why pay more money for more hassle when it is not necessary?

Thanks Maybe thats the deal. I have owned 2 other mb and they did not require vented batteries so Im just trying to find out everything I can. Maybe it is only for trunk batteries like you mentioned. Mine is located under the hood. Thanks
