Former Lurker comes clean and Joins!
I usually lurk on various forums but this is such a great newsgroup I really need join an contribute!
MB owner since 1995 but only 3 vehicles:
1995-2004/ 2003 190E 2.6-Great Vehicle sold w/ 160k
2004-Present ML 500- No major mechanical issues but could've been put together better in Alabama! Currently 92k
Purchased 2007 ML 350 for wife a month ago. Nice, but has had a few surprises..Rear SAM repaced other one had water damage.
Waiting on 4 new cam shaft magnets. Car runs great now without. Typical MB little stuff.
I try and do as much as I can on them; Not that I'm cheap but I have two kids getting ready for college, etc..
I'd appreciate your comments on items below:
I'm a little put off with our local dealer. Driving home the other day I lost rear lights and turn signals. Troubleshot it and lay odds it was a Rear SAM; dealer confirmed. Replacing the rear SAM and related wiring connection cost me $1400? Part was $440, rest labor which to me seems high. Then at pickup, they had not properly flashed and I did not have seats. My wireless was also not working. They thought it was the key and I had a new one arriving the next day. It arrived and wireless (previously working, still was not working). Brought it back again next day and told me one of the re-pinned connections to SAM pushed through too much by mechanic and had lost contact. Finally fixed. While I was waiting called another MB dealership 100mi away (I"m in the middle of no place) and they quoted $$850 for the job. Does that sound right??
I'm ordering the cam shaft magnets and plan to put them on myself unless I need to have something re flashed. Compared to the 163 ML500, it seems MB really complicated the crap out of the 164's with Sensormania..and they don't last. Fixing the sensors will cost more than the part!!haha... Probably designed that way..
