Pinion depth

Hi, I am currently overhauling a W124, 185mm differential.

Need information about how Mercedes meassure their pinion depth.
Wich surface do they meassure from?
What is the referanse distance?

If you now what tool number to use it can possibly give me some clue on how to do it.

I know "my" distance is +0,08, does this mean i must add 0,08 to the referance distance to get my original pinion setting?

Help appreciated.
