Clock is going crazy on 2006 CLK-350
The clock on our car will just reset itself. It goes backward then forwards stopping on the correct time. It started doing this last week, and seems to do it at random. I had a brake light replaced and I went in for a fall insection last week and it has been since then that the clock has done this. I took the car to the dealership and the service advisor thought perhaps it was the battery, then he came back having checked with the technician who ruled the battery as the source right it way because the car starts up promptly and when they got the clock to act strange the whole instrument cluster blinked for a second, the techinician thought maybe it was alternator or voltage regulator, but that was before he actually did the diagnostics. After the diagnostics they told us the instrument panel (part number 209-540-60-48) was going out, and they had no idea why it was going out. The car has about 35,000 miles on it. Does this seem reasonable diagnosis? Any ideas about what would cause it to go out?
